G8 & Flight and Migration: Meeting at 14/15th of October in Göttingen (english)
Invitation to a Meeting in Goettingen to Plan a Mass Action around the
2007 G8
Summit in Heiligendamm
14th and 15th October 2006, in Goettingen (Germany)
From 6th-8th July, 2007 the heads of state and government of the eight
(self-proclaimed) most powerful countries on Earth will meet in
Heiligendamm.
We want to use the opportunity of this world economic summit, and the
mobilisation against the G8, in order to demonstrate global solidarity.
Similar
to the big demonstration in Genoa, we want to organise a day of action
for
global rights and against neo-colonialism, racism, discrimination and
so on… On
the basis of different call-outs from anti-racist and migrant groups
involved in
the NoLager network, a considerable number of groups have already
stated their
intention to organise such an event in order to make the topic an
important
aspect of the mobilisation.
At the Anti-G8 Action Conference in Rostock (March 2006), the BUKO
(Federal
Coalition for Internationalism) Conference (May 2006), the Dissent
meetings
(January and April 2006) and, most recently, the anti-G8 “Camp-Inski”
on the
Baltic Sea (August 2006), a number of meetings have already taken place
in
relation to flight and migration. The objective was to agree upon, and
discuss
the political basis for, a migration-political action in connection
with the
2007 G8 summit. Whilst until now we have been getting to know one
another,
exchanging ideas and finding a way of, together, addressing the issue;
the
weekend in Goettingen is intended to further develop the key hallmarks
of the
mobilisation and to agree upon a common basis for moving forward.
During the discussions at previous meetings, the following issues have
already
arisen:
· Connecting the struggles of local refugees and migrants (e.g. against
detention camps) to the effects of the exploitative politics of the G8
in
general
· The notion of global freedom of movement as existing in a
relationship of
tension with a protectionist social state model of government
· Neocolonialism, in relation to the G8 summit topic of “a new politics
for
Africa”
· The question of agreeing upon a slogan or common demands, whilst at
the same
time taking into consideration the existence of different realities
· The idea of a common “Caravan”, for example from Hamburg to Rostock
· As well as the question of broadening the involvement of other
groups,
associations and communities.
We want to discuss these thematic areas during the weekend, with the
objective
of deciding upon a concrete proposal for a migration-political day of
action.
We then want to take this proposal to the G8 mobilisation meetings
which follow
and to publicise our activities.
